How it started
Aahwahan — a call to serve — began in 2009 with a handful of volunteers in Bengaluru and a stubborn belief: that lasting change begins where the need is greatest, and that ordinary people, working together, can rewrite what is possible for a community.
How it grew
What started as weekend drives has grown into a nationwide movement running classrooms on wheels, free health camps, tree-plantation and lake-restoration drives, and skilling programmes — all built alongside the communities they serve.

How we grew
Three chapters, one unbroken thread
From a single question in Bengaluru to a movement that now spans the country — the model never changed: meet people where they are, and build with them.
Chapter 1Chapter 2Neighbours became a movement
Weekend drives grew into weekday programmes. Teachers, doctors, students and shopkeepers gave their time, and communities stopped being recipients of help — they became partners in building it.
Chapter 3One city became a country
The work travelled from Karnataka to Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand and beyond — and eventually a Global Tree Plantation Drive across seven countries, meeting people where they are.
